AI consulting · Capital Region
Applied AI, built and measured in the Capital Region.
Blue Horizon Labs is an applied-AI research lab based in Albany, New York. We install AI-native operating systems inside mid-market businesses across the Capital Region and the Hudson Valley — then measure what changes and publish what we learn.
Applied AI, locally
The Capital Region's applied-AI research lab.
Most AI consulting sells a tool and leaves. We work the other way: a diagnostic reads the business first, an AI-native operating system is architected to what it actually needs, and the whole engagement is measured against a baseline — not asserted.
The lab is based in Albany and serves Albany, Troy, Schenectady, Saratoga Springs, and the Capital Region — extending down the Hudson Valley corridor to the New York City metro. We run on the same system we install, which is why we can report what an AI-native operation does from the inside — the firm is its own longest-running experiment.
What we do here
From an AI readiness diagnostic to a system that runs the operation.
AI readiness diagnostic
A two-to-four-week reading of where a business actually stands, scored on the Performance Index before any recommendation is made.
AI-native operating systems
The operating layer underneath every function — CRM, finance, delivery — architected, installed, and handed back at twelve weeks.
Custom AI agents & automation
Agents that run alongside a team and workflow automations that remove manual drag — built only after the diagnostic says what the business needs.
AI strategy & advisory
A standing operator presence for owner-led companies past the point where ad-hoc catch-up works — straight answers, measured against a baseline.
Where we work
Based in Albany. Working across the Capital Region and the Hudson Valley corridor.
Local intent matters for this work — an operator wants a lab that can sit in the room. Our home turf is the Capital Region; we extend down the Hudson Valley to the New York City metro where the engagement fits.

Personal Health OS — Validating the Model Before the Integration
We shipped the MVP with zero live integrations — on purpose. The riskiest assumption wasn’t connectivity; it was model validity.

Methodology
The Blue Horizon Labs Operating System — Running a Firm on Notion + Claude
We run the whole firm — CRM, finance, marketing, HR, app development — as one AI-native operating system. Here’s the architecture.
Design Infrastructure
A White-Label Design System — One Token Source, Every Surface
One design-token source of truth compiles to web CSS and print LaTeX — including this website, whose build fails if the tokens drift.

Questions
Common questions
- Where is Blue Horizon Labs based, and which areas does it serve?
- Blue Horizon Labs is an applied-AI research lab based in Albany, New York. We work with businesses across the Capital Region — Albany, Troy, Schenectady, Saratoga Springs, Clifton Park, and Colonie — and along the Hudson Valley corridor down to the New York City metro.
- What does an AI diagnostic actually measure?
- Every engagement opens with the Performance Index — a reading of organizational health scored from 0 to 100 across five dimensions: strategic clarity, operational efficiency, revenue architecture, technology enablement, and organizational capability. It measures where a business actually stands; it is not a sales tool.
- How much does AI consulting cost?
- We publish fee floors rather than quote on a call. A performance diagnostic starts at $8,500; architecture and integration engagements scope up from there, and the exact figure is set inside the diagnostic once the work is understood. Where an engagement includes software we resell, we disclose where we earn a margin.
- How is an applied-AI research lab different from an AI agency?
- An applied-AI research lab treats each engagement as an experiment: we install AI-native operating systems inside real businesses, measure what changes, and publish what we learn — including the results that did not go as planned. Blue Horizon Labs runs on the same system it installs, so it can report what an AI-native operation does from the inside.
- Which businesses do you work with?
- The lab works with businesses in the $5M–$50M range — typically owner-led companies whose growth has outpaced their structure. The work is industry-agnostic; the common thread is a business ready to operate on an architecture that compounds rather than one held together by heroics.
- Do you build custom AI agents and automations?
- Yes. Integration engagements build custom AI infrastructure — agents that run alongside a team, workflow automations, and a Notion-based operating layer — but only after a diagnostic establishes what the business needs. Architecture before integration; the order is not negotiable.

Start with a measurement.
A diagnostic isn't a sales tool — it's the lab's first reading of where your business actually stands. Plain language, real numbers.
